Pakōpakō (pah-ko-pah-ko) is a Māori electronic dance music collective from Aotearoa New Zealand. Pakōpako are spearheading Electronic music made for dancefloors, coined as 'Hiko', in Māori language which translates to "electrify".
Created by 2 of Aotearoa's Music Og's, Huia Hamon (Huia), award-winning singer and producer, and Chris Chetland (Baitercell), award-winning producer and audio engineer, together they run gold-awarded Kog Studio.
A new collective and show, Pakōpakō blends heavyweight contemporary electronic music, such as Drum and Bass (DnB), dancehall, and house, with traditional Māori elements like haka chants with te reo Māori lyrics, and live Kuki log drums. They also flip up big tunes, such as 'Original Don' by Subfocus and Irah, into te reo Māori "Ko Te Rangatira" for our global audiences.
The show has had some amazing starts, with AUM festival NYE, their own release party at Mothership, and upcoming at Festival of Lights in Taranaki, as well as WOMAD 2027 (upcoming NZ). Between the collective, which includes Just2Māori, Rei, Hohua Stā, Zen-Awa Chetland, Corez and Miriama, they have a broad audience with over 1 million streams.
